Report: Maryland Green Jobs Boomed in 2025

Maryland Clean Energy Center (MCEC) staff monitors and reports on employment and wages in the Maryland Clean Energy Sector each year. The 2025 MCEC Employment and Wages Report highlights continued economic growth and momentum within Maryland’s energy sector. The report is based on the most recently available data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ (BLS) Quarterly Census of Employment and Wages (QCEW) from the fourth quarter of 2025. It examines employment and wage trends across a broad range of energy-related industries and occupations and analyzes sector growth in comparison to previous years. The findings demonstrate continued growth in total sector employment and weekly wages, highlighting the strength and importance of Maryland’s energy workforce as the state experiences increasing demand for energy infrastructure and investment.

  • In comparison of data from 2021 to 2025, total employment in this sector increased by 7,088 jobs (4th quarter of 2021 vs. 4th quarter of 2025). It increased from 13,8254 (2021) jobs to 14,5342 (2025) jobs.

  • Compared to 2024, total sector-wide employment increased by 4,590 jobs, while total sector annual earnings increased by a collective $1,277,658,768.
  • The 2023 MCEC Comparison Report shows that the collective annual earnings of all workers in the clean energy sector increased from $11,664,105,816 in 2019 to $13,691,464,652 in 2023.
  • In comparison to 2021, the estimated total earnings in the Maryland clean energy sector increased by $2,867,834,192 through 2025. The total annual earnings for 2025 are estimated to be $15,436,248,816.

  • In addition, the sector-wide average weekly earnings increased from $1,858.94 in 2021 to $2,209.52 in 2025. This is a $346.58 increase. Additionally, average weekly earnings increased by $216.70 from 2024.
