The Maryland Energy Innovation Accelerator (MEIA) is seeking experienced Energy Executive in Residence’s (EEIR) to accelerate the commercialization of Alektra
Founded by Jiaqun Wang, AIektra is a Maryland-based Energy AI nexus startup, developing an integrated data, prediction, and optimization service intelligence platform for the electricity market.
The platform is specifically focused on renewable energy producers and energy storage operators to optimize three critical areas:
1) Bidding strategies for renewables and energy storage in the electricity energy markets
2) Charging and discharging schedules for stand-alone storage and hybrid generator storage;
3) Capacity allocation, Market selections, and Risk management strategies for renewables and energy storage in wholesale electricity markets.
This role is designed for a mid-to-senior trading manager or commercial director from a generation company, independent power producer (IPP), or vertically integrated utility who understands how power is bought, sold, hedged, and optimized in organized wholesale markets, particularly in PJM.
The EEIR will serve as a strategic bridge between Alektra’s AI-powered battery energy storage optimization platform and the utility and trading community. The immediate priority is to co-design and execute a structured pilot program with a generation-side partner to validate Alektra’s dispatch optimization and LMP forecasting capabilities against real operational benchmarks.
EEIR Responsibilities and Capabilities Include:
Commercial Partnership Development
Leverage existing network within generation companies, IPPs, and utility commercial desks to identify and cultivate a Tier-1 pilot partner for Alektra’s BESS optimization and price forecasting platform.
Help structure pilot program agreement, defining scope, data-sharing terms, and performance benchmarks
Identify additional partnership channels, co-development agreements, revenue-sharing arrangements, or data licensing deals with generation-side commercial teams.
Pilot Program Design & Oversight
Co-architect the pilot structure with Alektra’s technical team: defining the market participation strategy (regulation, energy arbitrage, capacity, etc.), dispatch logic review process, and real-time performance monitoring framework.
Translate partner operational constraints (dispatch schedules, must-run obligations, fuel cost considerations) into requirements for Alektra’s co-optimization engine.
Product Development
Feedback on the Software design of Alektra’s platform, including but not limited to the UI design, features, optimization, and service layers.
Internal Advisory & Team Development
Serve as a senior sounding board for Alektra’s founding team on commercial strategy, go-to-market sequencing, and customer engagement: bridging the gap between technical product development and market adoption
Participate in selected investor meetings and due diligence sessions to lend operational credibility to Alektra’s commercial traction narrative.
Help recruit and evaluate potential commercial hires, advisory board members, or strategic partners with generation-side backgrounds.
The right EIR brings three complementary dimensions to this role:
- The Trader: You have managed power positions in PJM: DA/RT energy, ancillary services, capacity, or power purchase agreement. You understand dispatch optimization not as a theoretical exercise but as a daily commercial discipline. You know what a MW of regulation capability is worth and how a model error translates into real P&L.
- The Connector: Your network includes commercial leads, VP-level asset managers, and trading desk heads at generation companies, IPPs, or load-serving entities operating in PJM.
- The Builder: You’re drawn to early-stage ventures because you want to shape something.
If you or someone in your network is interested, please reach out to MEIA to learn more.
