When it comes to tackling the barriers to widespread solar adoption, Venki Energy is leading the charge with its innovative solutions. Determined to connect every household to the benefits of solar energy, the company is addressing the two biggest hurdles: high upfront costs and long financing commitments
Betty Watson, Venki Founder, is a visionary leader and 15-year veteran of the solar energy industry. With a career that includes influential roles at SolarCity, Tesla, and Apple, as well as groundbreaking contributions to energy policy at the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, Betty has consistently been at the forefront of clean energy innovation.
Venki Energy’s journey began in MEIA’s Phase 0: Pre-accelerator program where she tested commercial viability over the two-month course. Following Phase 0, she advanced to Phase 1: The Launchpad to further commercialize Venki’s vision. With the support of her Energy Executive in Residences (EEIRs), Erik Desrosiers, and Azimuth Advisory Services. Watson made remarkable progress in refining strategies and capitalizing on growth.
“Going through the MEIA Pre-Accelerator and Launchpad programs helped Venki Energy develop a solid business plan and connected me with incredible advisors and mentors that have propelled our work forward” said Watson. “Venki Energy continues to count MEIA as one our best resources”.
Betty’s journey with MEIA was not through yet; while completing the Launchpad program for Venki, she joined Oasis Energy Partners and Gray Matter Energy as an EEIR to help give back. Serving as a mentor through MEIA’s EEIR program provides a unique opportunity to engage directly with the challenges and dynamics of a clean energy startup, all while making a tangible impact on its growth and success.
Venki has recently been accepted by Halcyon’s DMV Climate Innovation Fellowship, a program dedicated to empowering founders with the tools and knowledge needed to address climate-related challenges, including mitigation, adaptation, and resilience. In addition has been awarded a Solar Prize Round 8 as part of First Cohort of Solar Energy Innovators.
For startups aiming to make an impact in the climate tech ecosystem, MEIA’s Pre-Accelerator is the perfect starting point.
