The Maryland Energy Innovation Accelerator (MEIA) recently ended its 2025 Winter Pre-Accelerator Program, graduating nine innovative companies from the cohort. This program, designed to help early-stage climate technology ventures refine their business models and prepare for commercialization, continued MEIA’s mission of driving innovation and sustainability in Maryland.
The Phase 0-Pre-Accelerator is an intensive, milestone-driven program that provides tailored mentorship, market insights, and strategic guidance to participating startups. In addition to the ongoing workshops, participants had the opportunity to engage in a Speed Mentoring session. This unique event allowed the startups to meet with a variety of seasoned mentors in quick, focused rounds, gaining valuable insights and personalized feedback. This experience helped the teams address key challenges, broaden their perspectives, and expand their networks, which will be crucial as they continue to develop and grow.
The cohort brought a diverse range of solutions, focused on making AI more energy-efficient, improving clean energy price discovery, and creating a mobile transportation system designed for all-weather protection. These nine teams worked closely with MEIA’s network of experienced mentors, industry experts, and instructors to sharpen their value propositions, identify funding opportunities, and establish key industry connections.
Workshops led by Mike Ducker, Edmund Pendelton, Kobby Ose-Kusi, and Dea Pratt, provided critical expertise, equipping startups with the tools necessary to accelerate their path to commercialization. MEIA’s Pre-Accelerator is uniquely positioned to help early-stage startups navigate the challenges of early-stage development and accelerate their path to commercialization.
More on the cohort:
- Alectra focuses on developing an AI-driven platform to help electricity companies optimize their trade strategies for stand-alone storage and generator-storage hybrid resources in the electricity markets.
- Agrivoltaics is an innovative solution that integrates renewable energy with agricultural productivity. Their approach optimizes land use, balancing energy generation with sustainable farming practices
- C Deeply builds neural networks very quickly from small training datasets (<100 kB). The web portal and APIs allow a 1 second computation time, used for architecture search and network training.
- Deep Waste is an easy-to-use mobile application that leverages powerful artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms to provide accurate and instantaneous waste classification that helps users identify, sort, and recycle waste using computer vision.
- OMEGA 167, the primary name for Magnetic Watts, is a new energy generator that uses permanent magnetic fields to produce continuous, scalable, and reliable electricity without reliance on fuel or weather conditions.
- Patuxent Riverkeeper is developing a new hybrid-electric vessel powered by renewable energy to support marine research, education, and environmental restoration. Designed for shallow waters, it combines a spacious deck with a shallow draft, making it ideal for transporting equipment and accessing remote areas that traditional research vessels cannot reach.
- Rechargeable Carbon Battery is a type of rechargeable battery that uses carbon-based materials as electrodes and water-based brine solutions as electrolytes. These batteries are notable for their environmental friendliness, as they use only carbon electrodes without any metals, and employ non-toxic salt solutions as electrolytes.
- Turanga Velo is an all-weather micromobility vehicle that enables far more car-free travel and utility than existing options while reducing traffic congestion and improving health outcomes for riders and the population as a whole due to reduced emissions.
- Zero Net Energy System ZNES pioneers a revolutionary approach to achieving true energy independence in modern buildings. Our solar thermal solutions combine power generation, heating, and cooling into a single integrated system.
The Pre-Accelerator is also the ideal pathway to progress through MEIA’s programs, designed to help startups scale their impact and commercialize their vision.
