Maryland Energy Innovation Institute
The Maryland Energy Innovation Institute will provide a platform to catalyze basic research into new technology while stimulating economic growth and improving millions of lives across the state of Maryland. The Institute will bring together science, industry, government and economic leaders to develop new energy technologies and facilitate the transfer of technology ideas into a reality. Through this truly interdisciplinary team, the institute will develop solutions to global and local energy problems (i.e. cleaner and renewable energy solutions; more efficient use and storage of energy) and assist the transfer of knowledge and resources to the public in addition to transitioning the research into marketable products and services through locally based entrepreneurial ventures.
ROSEI at Johns Hopkins
The Ralph S. O’Connor Sustainable Energy Institute (ROSEI) is the nexus for renewable energy-related research and educational programs at Johns Hopkins University. Founded in 2021, the Institute brings together extensive energy-related activities already underway at the university and is developing a series of initiatives to participate in the transformation of the energy sector to combat climate change. ROSEI’s mission is to integrate efforts across the university to create and implement clean, renewable and sustainable energy technologies; educate future energy leaders; and support implementation, markets, and policies that promote an affordable and equitable green energy future for a more resilient world.
U.S. Economic Development Administration
Established by the America COMPETES Reauthorization Act of 2010 and housed within the Economic Development Administration (EDA), the Office of Innovation and Entrepreneurship (OIE) aims to empower communities so that entrepreneurs can launch companies, scale technologies and create the jobs of tomorrow. Under the Build to Scale Program, EDA manages a portfolio of grant competitions that further technology-based economic development initiatives that accelerate high quality job growth, create more economic opportunities, and support the future of the next generation of industry leading companies. MEIA received a three-year Build to Scale award in October 2021.
