Maryland Clean Energy Center Advances Goucher College’s Visionary Carbon Neutral Plan

COLLEGE PARK, Md.Goucher College is advancing its commitment to clean energy by partnering with the Maryland Clean Energy Center (MCEC) and NORESCO to modernize its central utility plant. This transformative initiative includes integrating energy-efficient systems and implementing carbon reducing technologies across campus. As sustainability becomes an increasingly important priority for public institutions, Goucher College is dedicated to making economically sound decisions that benefit both the environment and future generations.

“With brave plans and big ambitions, Goucher College is setting a new standard in sustainability and clean energy, and we’re excited to help them realize those goals,” said MCEC Executive Director Kathy Magruder. “This partnership highlights our dedication to fostering innovative solutions on campuses and empowering educational institutions to lead the way toward a brighter, more sustainable future with faster implementation with advantageous financing.”

MCEC has a long history of supporting institutions to reach their sustainability goals. MCEC has implemented contracts to further the master sustainability plans for Coppin State University and Mogan State University. By investing in energy efficiency projects, MCEC is lowering the energy burden and empowering local leaders dedicated to decarbonizing their communities in an equitable way.

“Goucher College has long been known as a leader in innovation and sustainability. We are now poised to transform our campus and take this bold next step toward achieving our goal of becoming carbon neutral by 2035,” said Goucher College President Kent Devereaux. “We are proud to partner with MCEC and NORESCO on this initiative.”

Goucher College plans to utilize Energy Performance Contracting (EPC), working with NORESCO to meet their sustainability goals. By implementing their Campus Master Plan, Goucher College hopes to see improvements on student health, carbon neutrality, and biodiversity. An emphasis on energy efficiency and clean energy structures will empower them to meet these aspirations.

MCEC’s partnership with Goucher College comes as the organization celebrates its 15th anniversary. Since its inception, MCEC has leveraged over $200 million in private capital against over $15 million in public funding. By accelerating companies, creating jobs, and creating financing and grant opportunities, MCEC has been able to launch the clean energy transition in Maryland to the next level.
